Posting Summary
The Finance Area of Rutgers School of Business-Camden seeks applications for a Lecturer to develop and teach a course on Insurance and Estate Planning as part of our online Master of Science in Finance (MSF) – Wealth Management graduate degree program, starting in Spring 2025. This position may extend beyond that term. The course will be delivered entirely online in an asynchronous format, and its offering is subject to sufficient enrollment.

The Insurance and Estate Planning course introduces students to the insurance and estate planning topics that are included in the Certified Financial Planner (CFP) exam.

Insurance topics include:
• Principles of risk and insurance
• Analysis of risk exposures
• Insurance needs analysis and selection
• Health/life/disability/long-term care insurance
Estate planning topics include:
• Estate planning goals and documents
• Gift and estate tax compliance and calculation
• Sources of estate liquidity
• Strategies to transfer property

The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and teaching this new course. Course development entails selecting a textbook, drafting a syllabus, recording lecture videos, designing assessments, and organizing the course within Canvas, Rutgers’s Learning Management System, in accordance with the school’s guidelines for online teaching. The school offers a one-time stipend for course development. A draft of the syllabus must be submitted by June 1, 2024, for review.

While teaching the course, the candidate is expected to check for student questions daily and respond within 24 hours, make weekly announcements regarding course content and upcoming deadlines, provide timely feedback on student work, facilitate student interactions, offer virtual office hours as needed, and comply with grade submission policies and deadlines.

Minimum Education and Experience:
Applicants must possess an advanced degree in finance and/or CFP (Certified Financial Planner) certification, in addition to a bachelor’s degree. Proven sustained engagement as a full-time professional or consultant in the areas of finance applicable to this position is required for future teaching assignments.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Candidates should demonstrate excellence in teaching, especially in an online environment. Practical experience in insurance and/or estate planning will be considered an advantage.

Rutgers University may require certain prospective employees to receive an updated (bivalent) vaccine dose.
